Position: Camp Shriver Counselor, seasonal (July-August), part-time
Description: Camp Shriver Counselor is responsible for providing high-quality recreational opportunities and enjoyable experiences for camp participants. Supervises campers and ensures their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and general well-being.
Counselors needed in Lawrenceville, Toms River, Ridgewood, and Deptford, NJ.
This position is non-exempt; some evenings are required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise a group of 8-15 campers in station activities
- Attend pre-camp counselor training
- Provide guidance, direction and exhibit a lead-by-doing approach for volunteers
- Monitor athletes’ health and safety throughout the camp
- Work cooperatively with camp leadership and staff for any challenges that arise
- Be exemplars of inclusion in attitude and engagement with athletes and volunteers at all time during camp
- Responsibly utilize a walkie talkie for contact among staff and other senior counselors
- Point-of-contact to share with volunteers their responsibilities each day
- Attend the daily counselor leadership meeting prior to camp
- Track and manage athlete progress sheets and complete post-week volunteer evaluations
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Upcoming Senior or GED required
- Sports experience as an athlete and/or coach preferred
- Special Olympics experience strongly preferred
- Interest in getting to know/engaging with individuals with intellectual disabilities
- Self-starter and must be able to initiate conversation in social settings
- Open-minded, teachable and able to receive constructive feedback
- Ability to enforce camp rules while supervising a diverse group
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to see and hear clearly
- Must be able to communicate fluently and clearly in English (oral)
- Must be able to move comfortably throughout the office and on a variety of outdoor surfaces
- Must be able lift/move up to 50 lbs

Position: CAMP COORDINATOR, seasonal (July-August), part-time
Coordinators needed in Lawrenceville, Toms River, Ridgewood, and Deptford, NJ.
Responsibilities Include:
- Primary point-of-contact for camp while in-session and responsible for its execution and management on-site
- Co-lead pre-camp leadership training for counselors
- Plan and lead counselors in daily pre-camp meetings and serve as mentor for their growth as inclusive-minded students and young professionals
- Assign counselor roles for daily equipment, set up, breakdown and any additional needs
- Track notes on counselors throughout the weeks and athletes when necessary (request for 1:1, asked to leave, out-of-character situations)
- Assist with the planning and implementation of camp, maintaining a smooth camp schedule and ensuring athletes’ experiences are maximized
- Work with other staff, counselor and volunteers to provide instructional, safe and fun camp
- Oversee day-of camp prep and clean up each day
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- College degree
- Strong people management skills in a community programming or school setting; sports background helpful but not required; camp operations strongly preferred but not required
- Knowledge and experience working with individuals with disabilities in a supervised environment; Special Olympics experience strongly preferred
- Must take initiative and have a strong work ethic
- Experience with conflict resolution and ability to exhibit emotional maturity with fellow staff, volunteers, athletes and families
- Practical organization with verbal and written communication skills (compose professional and grammatically-sound emails, comfort and professionalism speaking on the phone, basic data management abilities on Excel)
- Possess strong leadership skills; experience in supervising and training others preferred
- Be in good health, ability to work outdoors during summer

Description: The Program Intern will provide support in a variety of initiatives
including, but not limited to, competition planning and execution.
Reports To: Director of Program
Key Accountabilities:
- Assist Program Department in event planning and preparation of seasonal statewide competitions, to include leagues, sectionals, and state competitions
- Event execution of seasonal competitions including, but not limited to, equipment and venue management, and administrative support
- Research locations, equipment, and event-related materials as needed
- Maintain contacts and sport reporting databases, including coach and chaperone forms, and utilizing the Games Management System (GMS) database
As a Program intern, you will gain the following experience:
- Project management
- Event planning and management
- Analytical thinking
- Nonprofit management
- Operating in a business environment
Qualifications:
- Must be a college/university student; Sports Administration or similar major preferred
- Must receive college credit for the internship
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently with scheduled regular contact with Director of Program
- Technology skills including Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and the ability to learn Games Management System (GMS)
- Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to travel to events throughout the state

Young Athletes is an inclusive sports play program that supports children ages 2-7 with ID (Intellectual Disabilities). The Young Athletes Program Intern supports a variety of initiatives including program planning and execution.
Reports To: Young Athletes Manager
Key Accountabilities:
- Assist Program Department in event planning and preparation of seasonal statewide community programs, maintaining home program requests, and state competitions implementing young athletes
- Event execution of seasonal programs including, but not limited to, equipment and venue management, and administrative support
- Research locations, equipment, and event related materials as needed
- Maintain contacts and program reporting databases, including coach and volunteer forms, and utilizing the Games Management System (GMS) database
As a Young Athletes Program intern, you will gain the following experience:
- Project management
- Event planning and management
- Analytical thinking
- Nonprofit management
- Operating in a business environment
Qualifications:
- Must be a college/university student; Occupational Therapy, Recreational Therapy, Special Education and early childhood or similar major preferred
- Must receive college credit for internship

- Technology skills including Excel, Microsoft Word, Power Point and the ability to learn Games Management System (GMS)
